The Classic is, as the name implies, a classic addition to any kitchen. We adore this machine. Many of us have one at home so a delicious shot is available at a moment’s notice at work or at play. It’s a single boiler machine designed to deliver a rich, Italian espresso through the commercial-style group. Texture milk to taste with the help of Gaggia’s specially designed pannarello wand, which automatically aerates the milk into a cappuccino froth. The Classic is flexible here, though, which we love, because the machine can be equipped with a latte art wand for manual addition of air while steaming. It’s also able to brew using espresso grounds or ESE pods by swapping out the commercial basket for the included pressurized basket; making the Classic an all around stand out for beginners and pros alike. The Classic is an approachable entry point into the world of espresso, and its choice commercial-grade components endure for years to come. In that way, it really lives up to its name.
Gaggia conceived the Classic with user-growth in mind. Engaging the rocker switch heats it up to brew temp in just over five minutes, which is reflected by its illumination upon reaching brew temp. Another stand out commercial feature is the 3-way solenoid valve, which relieves pressure after steaming and dries out the puck for easy disposal. Given the single boiler design, it is necessary for the machine to heat up to steam temperature prior to texturing the milk, which it does in sixty seconds or less. To return to brew temp, simply flush the group of all steam. All these thoughtful features continue to impress us year after year while other machines fade into obscurity. They’re a big step up in terms of price, but if you’re looking for simultaneous brewing and steaming functionality, take a look at our heat exchange and dual boiler machine offerings. Or, if you’d like a more approachable entry-level machine, take a look at Gaggia’s Carezza De LUXE; it features pressurized brewing and pre-infusion.
Unique Single-Boiler Design
The Classic’s highly conductive aluminum boiler has two heating elements, which are embedded into its exterior sides, providing even heat distribution. The boiler system uses the highest wattage system available, which provides excellent temperature stability and a snappy heat up time when you turn it on or when you’re transitioning from brewing to steaming.
Commercial Style Group Head
The Classic’s commercial size group head is one-of-its-kind in its class. The chrome plated brass group and portafilter head lend heavily to temperature stability, and the 58mm size allows for a more even saturation. Make sure to pick up a 58mm metal tamper for use with the commercial basket, or swap it out with the pressurized basket to brew using ESE pods.
3-Way Solenoid Valve
The 3-way solenoid valve is a commercial feature that relieves water pressure from the group head when the brew switch is disengaged after brewing. This dries out the grounds to prevent dripping, and makes it easy to knock the puck out of the portafilter in just one tap.
Pannarello Steam Wand
The Classic’s pannarello wand automatically adds air to your milk through a pinhole at the top of the wand. This makes frothing easy for beginners, and, in combination with the Classic’s ESE pod capabilities, approachable to all users. Upgrade to the latte art wand for more control.
