This magnet activates a sensor in your machine to inform it that there is water in the tank. If your machine no longer reliably recognizes a full tank of water, then this magnetic float may be missing or degraded. The float is tapered and should be installed with the narrow end facing down. Make sure the cap is in place after installing.
